Spirit and Flesh notes, excerpted from the unpublished notebooks of Jack Haas
The poems we read aloud are the ones that destroy us most. It was such a poem that we were reading aloud. But we vanished in the reading. The poem remained. The reading remained. The reader remained. But we vanished. We exploded, silently. The poem remained. The reading and reader remained. But not us. We vanished into the great silence.
